California Tribe Envisions a Bright Future for American Indian Youth

San Fernando, CA –  The U.S. Department of Education awarded the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians (the Tribe) a grant to address educational achievement of American Indian high school students throughout Los Angeles County.

EDUCATION – LEADERSHIP – CULTURE – SUSTAINABILITY

The Tribe’s “Teaching And Mentoring Indian Tarahat” (TAMIT) is an education and leadership initiative through community building using non-traditional and traditional American Indian teaching methods while incorporating Indigenousvalues for American Indians 9th-12th grade students.

Beginning in 2012, the Tribe will implement the TAMIT program with a number of American Indian organizations and community collaborators.  The Tataviam Tribe will seek students, parents, community members and additional partnerships to strengthen our TAMIT program for the betterment of our shared future.
