National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (May 5th, 2020)

May 5, 2020

Today the Los Angeles City/County Native American Indian Commission recognizes National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. This global epidemic has stolen the lives of far too many women and girls. In 2016, 5,712 missing and murdered indigenous cases were reported to the National Crime Information Center. We ask that you join us today in honoring the lives of Native women and girls who have gone missing or have been murdered and help us uplift the families who had their loved ones stolen from them.

Ideas on how to participate and raise awareness:
1)   Wear RED today and post a photo on social media with the hashtag #MMIWG or #MMIW
2)    Host a candlelight vigil
3)    Post a list of names of sisters missing or murdered from your community
4)    Create a living memorial
