On Saturday, February 15, 2025 the Los Angeles City/County Native American Indian Commission (LANAIC) hosted a listening session at the Autry Museum of the West for American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) community members. The purpose of the listening session was for community members to share how they have been impacted by the Eaton and Palisades fires as well as questions and concerns they have about the new Federal administration. 19 community members participated. Participants were broken out into 3 small groups and participated in small group discussions facilitated by LANAIC Commissioners.
The following 3 questions were discussed:
- How are you impacted by the wildfires?
- What are your concerns about the federal executive orders and policy changes?
- What support do you need?
On March 18, 2025 the LANAIC adopted letters to the LA County Board of Supervisors and to LA City Mayor Karen Bass that summarized the listening session feedback. Both letters can be accessed using the links above.
The LANAIC will be submitting follow-up letters to the respective elected officials in April with recommendations to address the concerns shared by the AIAN community at the listening session.
The LANAIC extends its gratitude to the community members who participated in the listening session and looks forward to hosting future listening sessions to continue to hear from the community about these important issues and more.
